Roulette tables are laid out with the roulette numbers on the inside and spaces on the outside labelled 1-12, 13-24, 24-36, 1-18, 19-36, Even, Odd, Black, Red. Place your chips in one of these spaces to make an “outside bet”. “Inside bets” are when you place your chips on the inside of the table. A number of inside bets are possible, ranging from straight-up bets on a specific number to bets on a range of numbers. Examples include split bets on two numbers, street bets on three, corner bets on four and complicated French bets, which cover multiple possible outcomes. In roulette, payouts are determined by the corresponding roulette odds. Outside bets such as even, odd, black and red have almost 50:50 odds and pay out even money. The payouts and odds of roulette bets on the inside vary, for instance straight-up bets pay out 35:1 while a corner bet pays 8:1. American roulette has a special bet on five numbers (0, 00, 1, 2, 3) that pays out 6:1.
