The iPhone 6s and iPhone6s Plus were announced on 9 September 2015 and officially unveiled at a press event named “Hey Siri, give us a hint” in San Francisco. Both devices are successors to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and improve on and number of features found in these products. The result is a smoother and easier usability.
Features of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus
It’s been only one year since Apple released the iPhone 6, and it’s difficult to say how much of an impact the release of the 6s and 6s Plus will have on sales of the iPhone 6. While plenty improvements are clearly visible, the release of the successors are rather quick. On the other hand, the release of the 6s and 6s Plus means that consumers will have an even wider range of updated and modern Apple devices to choose from. Subtle upgrades in the 6s and 6s Plus wont disadvantage those who prefer to stick to the iPhone 6, but will satisfy tech junkies who want specific upgrades to features.
Let’s have a closer look at these features which were revealed at the conference in San Francisco.
Design
The new iPhones are identical to the iPhone 6. It’s as simple as that. Very little has changed physically, and it would be impossible to tell the products apart just by looking at them. However, the new phones will be available in a new colour called “Rose Gold” which is a light gold with a slight pink hue. It’s beautiful, but might appeal more to female users. Other users can opt for traditional white.
New “Force Touch”
Upgrades to the screen make using the phone much easier. Basically, you will be able to access apps quicker than you were able to with older iPhones. The new phone allows you to open new context-sensitive menus just by pressing down on the screen, and you cans witch between various aps. You can also access your shortcuts directly from the home screen and hold down on a feature to open up more options. Notifications are also displayed very subtly and in an unobtrusive manner.
Hardware
Sure, we need mobile phones to make calls, but let’s admit, it’s the cameras that are most intriguing. As expected, the 6s and 6s Plus do not fail to impress. Apple has replaced the long-favoured 8-megapixel camera for a 12-megapixel camera, and a 5-megappixel front camera. A new feature called “Live “Photos” turns your stills into videos and gifs, and the camera has 4k of video recording. Plus you can upload your HQ photos to your favourite social networks, which you can access from your home screen.
Pricing and availability
The iPhone 6S is scheduled to be released on 25 September. Let’s be frank – the devices are not cheap. A 16GB phone will cost you $650, or $100 if you get it on contract. If you want the 64GB phone you’ll pay $750 ($200 on contract).
In Australia the phone will cost AUS$1, 079 for 16GB and AUS$ 1,379 for the 128GB memory. Preorders opened on 12 September.
